OpenAI and Oracle are collaborating to enhance the Stargate project as part of a larger commitment to developing artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in the United States. This initiative promises an additional 4.5 gigawatts of data center capacity, projected to generate over 100,000 jobs across various sectors, including operations and manufacturing.
The partnership reflects a substantial investment of $500 billion aimed at bolstering U.S. AI capabilities over the next four years. The expansion of Stargate will total more than 5 gigawatts of the anticipated 10 gigawatt commitment.
OpenAI Chief Global Affairs Officer Chris Lehane highlighted this agreement as a pivotal moment, marking nearly a year since the initial Stargate concept was introduced alongside President Trump. The partnership is expected to exceed original targets, thanks to strong momentum and collaboration with key players like Oracle and SoftBank.
OpenAI emphasized that this investment will facilitate job creation and propel America’s reindustrialization while reinforcing its leadership in AI. At the Stargate I site in Abilene, Texas, operations are already underway.
Oracle has delivered Nvidia GB200 racks, enabling OpenAI to commence early training and inference workloads aimed at advancing next-generation research. Thousands of jobs have already been created at this facility, with further employment opportunities anticipated across more than 20 states.
Furthermore, OpenAI underscores the influence of White House leadership in fostering innovation and competitiveness in AI infrastructure development. The Stargate initiative, framed as OpenAI’s comprehensive AI infrastructure platform, also includes strategic partnerships with Oracle, SoftBank, CoreWeave, and ongoing collaborations with Microsoft as a technology partner.
This ambitious project aims to deliver the benefits of AI to a broader audience and promote national advancement in the field.
